Demons and Devils
Where did they come from and who are they?
In this study, we will be taking a close look at Demons and Devils. Many do not know the differences between the two of them nor where did they come from. Many do not have a clear understanding on Demons and Devils. Some associate Demons and Devils as being one and the same being. Is this true? We will take a closer look at both and learn who they are and where they came from.
When we read our Bible, we can see the monumental and ongoing conflict between Satan, and YHWH Who created him. Satan in the beginning was not created evil. The Bible teaches us that “all” things were created by YHWH and for YHWH.
“For of Him, and through Him, and to Him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.”
(Romans 11:36, KJV, emphasis added)
“But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by Him.”
(1 Corinthians 8:6, KJV, emphasis added)
“16 For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him: 17 And He is before all things, and by Him all things consist.”
(Colossians 1:16-17, KJV, emphasis added)
When we think about it, it makes perfect sense that YHWH created all things “perfect” that Satan was also created perfect along with all of YHWH’s Creation. Now to prove that whatever YHWH created or made is perfect and that nothing He does is shapeless, formless, empty or void; we will look at the following verses.
“He is the Rock, His work is perfect:…”
(Deuteronomy 32:4, KJV, emphasis added)
The Hebrew word for “perfect” is Strong’s Concordance #H8549 תָּמִים tâmı̂ym taw-meem'; which means without blemish, complete, full, perfect, sound, without spot, undefiled, whole. We see that His work is indeed perfect. Everything YHWH has done and is still doing is done to perfection. In the book of Ecclesiastes, it says:
“He hath made every thing beautiful in His time: also He hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.”
(Ecclesiastes 3:11, KJV, emphasis added)
The Hebrew word for “beautiful” is Strong’s Concordance #H3303 יָפֶה yâpheh yaw-feh', which means beautiful, beauty, comely, fair, goodly, pleasant, well. Another Scripture to check out is in the Psalms:
“As for God, His way is perfect: the word of the LORD [YHWH] is tried: He is a buckler to all those that trust in Him.”
(Psalm 18:30, KJV, emphasis and comment added)
The above Scriptures are clear that everything YHWH creates or makes is perfect and beautiful. He does not create anything in vain. He created everything perfect and beautiful to be inhabited. All things that YHWH created, He Created them “perfect/beautiful.”
Satan became evil all on his own. Pride was and still is his downfall. As we see in the Bible, when Satan fell, he rebelled against his Creator [YHWH] and all of Heaven. Satan is noted in the King James version of the Bible 56 times in 49 verses. He is the adversary. We can get bits and pieces about Satan all throughout the Bible and some of what he did. However, when it comes to the Demons and Devils, we do not have much to go on from the Bible. So, we have to go to independent studies outside the Bible to learn about these Demons and Devils and where they came from and who they are. This is necessary to get a better understanding of these beings. Some may see the extra Biblical text as being questionable and they chose to not give it any credit. However, the sources will be sited for the readers reference to check out for themselves. The details will require a certain amount of independent study and cross-referencing. For that reason alone, some of the material presented below remains somewhat controversial.
If you will do your own research, you will learn that some scholars have and do refuse to consider anything at all that was not voted into the final biblical canon by the Roman Catholic (Universal) Church at the Council of Constantinople in 553 C.E. This is especially true of the book of Enoch. The book of Enoch is a great help in understanding some of the details with startling clarity on some of the concepts that are not so easily understood in the Bible. The book of Enoch is an ancient text which is attributed to Enoch that we read about in Genesis 5:22. This book was considered to be “regular canon” in Yeshua’s time and it is heavily quoted in the letters of Jude, 2 Peter and Revelation. Another unknown fact is the book of Enoch appears more often than any other book in the canonized Bible among the Dead Sea Scrolls. At the end of this study a table is presented which compares parts of the book of Enoch with New Testament Scriptures. The comparison is amazing. Enoch was established and recognized as part of the Torah and it was quoted by several of the writers of both the Old and New Testaments but it was thrown out by the Roman Catholic Church for reasons that will soon become apparent.
The book of Enoch gives us incomparable insight into the differences between “demons” and “devils.” The clear difference between demons and devils is one of those major and yet seldom understood concepts that keeps reappearing throughout the Scriptures and they are almost never talked about in modem Christian churches. And yet, Yeshua/Jesus clearly acknowledged this in the book of Matthew:
“But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”
(Matthew 17:21, KJV)
“And he [Yeshua] said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.”
(Mark 9:29, KJV, comment added)
The ancient understanding of the differences between demons and devils is many thousands of years old. In Yeshua’s time, it was a common understanding among the Jewish people, and among the rabbis in particular. Yeshua felt no need to over-explain Himself in the Scriptures cited above. This is still understood by the Hebrew people today who are educated in such matters.
The idea that demons and devils are one and the same is a newer concept. It was arbitrarily introduced into the Christian Church in 553 C.E. by the Council of Constantinople. The leaders of that assembly ruled that any written opinion that distinguished between demons and devils must be destroyed or if it was to be accepted by the Church, it must be altered to fall in line with the “new thinking.”
This ruling came about as an expansion of the Anti-Jewish laws which were initiated in 327 C.E. By this ruling the Roman Catholic Church outlawed the Jewish books known as the Mishnah, the Talmud which are rabbinical commentaries on the Bible and the more ancient books, such as the book of Enoch. All of these books were immediately outlawed but only because they could not be completely destroyed. Officially, the Roman Catholic Church claimed that these books no longer had any value in providing insight into the Scriptures and that they were even declared “heretical.” Indeed, this same ruling almost succeeded in deleting the books of 1 and 2 Peter and Jude, because of their agreement with and references to the book of Enoch.
The councils change from their acceptance to their rejection of the fundamental differences between devils and demons came about by the reaction from an influx of mystical, pagan, and heretical teachings by many of the early Greek church fathers, such as Origen and Tertullian. The truth of that distinction was thrown out because it too closely resembled some of the more bizarre teachings of these men. The Council excommunicated Origen, post-mortem, and it condemned the previously accepted understanding regarding demons and devils. Mainly, the Roman Catholic Church was afraid that the uneducated masses of people would be unable to distinguish between heresy and the truth that involved what they felt were some very “strange and disturbing” elements.
What this decision boiled down to was only the elite (themselves) could handle this knowledge. Therefore, they decreed that it would no longer officially exist believing the uneducated would not be able to handle what was written in these ancient books.
It was the council’s intent and desire to destroy all of these extra writings but they learned that it’s almost impossible to destroy all traces of such an important truth. Now, let us transport ourselves to a moment much closer to the beginning of our world. In this process, we will fill in some of the details so that we can all understand the “who and what” of what we are dealing with now thousands of years later when we speak of Satan, demons, and devils.
A Clear Difference
When we study the ancient Hebrew language, we will see that they used different words for demons and devils, which are utterly distinct and they carry with them various characteristics attributed to each separate entity. One word that is used for the devil, we are already familiar with is ha (the) Satan, Hebrew for “the adversary.” He is also known as the “enemy” and the “accuser.” Ha Satan is the source for the modern English word Satan, which is his most familiar designation.
Ironically, Satan never was his name! Ha Satan was and is a “title,” chosen by YHWH and it was given to a cherub whose real name we do not know. Yes, that’s right, we do not know the real name of the one we call Satan. All we have is his title and not his real name. When that cherub rebelled and he was thrown out of heaven, YHWH literally took away his identity by removing his name and giving him a title instead, thus conveying total dishonor upon him. The way you bring dishonor to a being or human is you do not speak nor write their name. In essence, you are rendering then as being nothing.
In the Western church’s error, they have regrettably and innocently turned a Hebrew description into a name. Thus, by doing so, they are giving honor of a personal name back to Ha Satan, who is the leader of the evil hordes. This is exactly the opposite of what YHWH intended. We have compounded our error even more when we claim that he was also known, by YHWH, as Lucifer. This was totally a personal name that was given to him by the Babylonians and this was based on their understanding that he came as an angel of light.
The Apostle Paul puts forth this same claim, along with a warning for us to watch out for false prophets who come in Satan’s place:
“13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. 14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.”
(2 Corinthians 11:13-15, KJV)
In the book of Isaiah, he also seems to refer to him as Lucifer in the King James, but this still does not mean that the YHWH ever knew him by that name. Many biblical scholars consider this translation erroneous and most translations now use “morning star,” “son of the dawn,” or something similar:
“How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!”
(Isaiah 14:12, KJV, emphasis added)
Some of the alternate Hebrew terms that are used for a devil are baal and teraphim. But baal actually means “lord” or “chieftain,” and it is most often used more as a title than a real name. For example, calling someone “Baal Harrington” in the ancient Hebrew language would be saying “Lord Harrington” in English.
On the other hand, Elijah, was one of YHWH’s prophets who fought and destroyed the prophets of Baal (with a capital B) on Mt. Carmel as we see in 1 Kings 18:28-40. Clearly, we can see the prophets that Elijah destroyed were worshipping and serving devils, or fallen angels, of whom the chief was Baal.
The idea that devils had their own dedicated worshippers in the days of Elijah is substantiated further when you consider the possible meanings of the word teraphim, which we’ll get to in a moment. But by way of preview, if you are a fallen teraphim, you want people to worship you. How would you get them to do that? You would do it by establishing an idol! All of which brings up an excellent rule of thumb. Whenever you encounter spiritual beings that are trying to get you to worship them, they are devils.
In the Beginning
In the beginning, we know that YHWH created all things. But even before God created all the life forms on Earth, we know He also created a huge host of heavenly beings, commonly called angels. We do know that YHWH created the angels before He created the physical universe. The book of Job describes the angels worshiping YHWH as He was creating the world. These angels were created and dedicated to service YHWH forever. In a sense, from their moment of creation, they have been YHWH’s hands and feet, for they are the ones who carry out many of His missions throughout His creation. Think about this, if YHWH had created all things before, He created the angels and after He created the angels, they asked Him, where did all this come from and He would have told them that He created all these things before He created them. They could have come back and said, Yeh, right!!! YHWH first created the angels so that He could use them as His witness to Him creating everything else. They would witness His creating powers and know that He is all powerful, all knowing and all present. The following Scripture teaches us that YHWH had His created angels there with Him before He created all other things.
“4 Where wast thou [Job] when I [YHWH] laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding. 5 Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it? 6 Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof; 7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?”
(Job 38:4-7, KJV, emphasis and comments added)
Not all angels were created to be equal. The Scripture teach us that YHWH created three separate “orders,” of angels of which each one has their own unique form, function, and purpose. In the Hebrew singular, their titles were teraph, seraph, and cherub. The Hebrew plural forms are as follows:
1) The cherubim are also called archangels and they are angels of the highest and the most powerful order. They literally surround the Throne of YHWH. Cherubim have six wings, four faces, and they are very large in size. The four faces we read about in Revelation 4:7 and Ezekiel 1:10 are of a man’s face, a lion’s face, a bull’s face, and an eagle’s face. They are also covered with eyes.
We are introduced in the Bible to four cherubim. The most commonly known cherubim are the Archangel Michael who is the Prince of Israel, the Archangel Gabriel, and the two cherubim who fell. One was called “Lucifer” as it is translated in the King James Version the Bible of Isaiah 14:12 and one called Abaddon who is now the angel of Death. We will take a look at him in a little bit. The other two cherubim are Uriel and Raphael. We find them referred to in extra-biblical writings such as the Jewish Talmud, Mishnah, and the apocryphal books.
Here are the meanings of the names of these four cherubim/archangels who did not rebel against YHWH and thereby they kept their positions before the Throne of YHWH:
Michael Warrior (prince) of YHWH
Gabriel Redeemer of YHWH
Raphael Healer of YHWH; bringer of YHWH’s Healing
Uriel Light of YHWH; bringer of YHWH’s Light
Do we not find it interesting to learn that at the end of all of these names we see they are spelled with “el,” which is a Hebrew word (or suffix) meaning YHWH? Each of these four cherubim represents some attribute, characteristic, or service that originates from YHWH.
Two of the original six cherubim who rebelled against YHWH represent one-third of this class of angels that YHWH created to serve Him. The four named cherubim above remained true to YHWH, while the one which we mistakenly call Lucifer (again, the one who often comes as a Cherub of Light) and Abaddon (originally the Cherub of Life, who was also the foundation of the Throne and he is now the Cherub of Death) both fell. We see Lucifer’s downfall is indelibly recorded for us in the book of Ezekiel:
“13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. 14 Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. 15 Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. 16 By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. 17 Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee. 18 Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee. 19 All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more.”
(Ezekiel 28:13-19, KJV)
In the King James Version for Ezekiel 28:16, it says:
“By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.” (KJV, emphasis added)
This reference to the “covering cherub” can also refer to a covenant, which is sometimes referred to as a “covering” and it is directly related to what is known in Hebrew as a chuppah. A chuppah is known as the literal covering for ancient and modern Hebrew wedding ceremonies.
In any case, YHWH stripped both Lucifer and Abaddon of their original names and their positions of authority. Note that this development further reinforces our understanding that Hebrew names embody identity. As we have seen several times so far, the evil being we now call Satan can appear as an angel of light because he’s a deceiver. Hence, even though YHWH took his name away from him, he is still sometimes known as Lucifer, which is a Babylonian variant of Lucent from Latin which means “light” and it is the name by which we refer to him in Isaiah 14:12.
2) The seraphim are the middle order of angels and they are sometimes known as the “Burning Ones” or the “Healing Angels.” According to what we read in the Scriptures, these angels burn with fire and they are like the cherubim. They are covered with eyes. As messengers of YHWH. They race back and forth between heaven and earth, doing His will. By way of illustration, the ancient Hebrew word we see in Revelation 8:7 (seraph) that is commonly translated as “fire” raining down on the earth is also referring to the seraphim coming down from heaven as “heavenly fire.” A Hebrew word more commonly used to refer to natural fire only would be esh.
In the book of Genesis, we come across the story of Jacob’s ladder:
“And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.”
(Genesis 28:12, KJV)
In this passage, the original Hebrew suggests that what Jacob saw were seraphim, or messengers of YHWH.
3) The teraphim are the lowest order of angels. They are the only ones who can take on human form and maintain it for any extended period of time. You may even entertain them unaware, as indicated in the book of Hebrews:
“Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.”
(Hebrews 13:2, KJV)
In addition, teraphim are also denoted by the Hebrew word ayirf which means “watcher.” We see in the book of Daniel where angels watch over us and serve as protectors and custodians of men’s souls:
“10 Thus were the visions of mine head in my bed; I saw, and behold a tree in the midst of the earth, and the height thereof was great. 17 This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men. 18 This dream I king Nebuchadnezzar have seen. Now thou, O Belteshazzar, declare the interpretation thereof, forasmuch as all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known unto me the interpretation: but thou art able; for the spirit of the holy gods is in thee.”
(Daniel 4:10, 17-18, KJV, emphasis added)
The teraphim are our guardian angels. A few years ago, there was a TV show called “Touched by an Angel.” It portrayed the angels as being guardian angels. These guardian angels are referred to as teraphim. Another TV show that most have not thought about is “Highway to Heaven” with Michael Landon who played a teraphim. He was seen as a human with a family but he was serving as a protector of all those whom he came in contact with.
When a Teraphim falls from his service to YHWH, they are called “idols.” as in the NASB translation of Genesis 31:34:
“Now Rachel had taken the household idols and put them in the camels saddle, and she sat on them. And Laban searched through all the tent but did not find them.”
(Genesis 31:34, NASB)
Many of the other translations we come across have this passage using the word “images.” The Hebrew word from which “idols” or “images” comes (ha teraphim) indicates that the spirits behind the wooden idols (carved figures) that Rachel stole from her father’s household were fallen teraphim.
Here are some other translations that actually uses teraphim instead of idols or images:
“Now Rachel had taken the teraphim, and put them in the camel’s saddle, and sat upon them. And Laban felt about all the tent, but found them not.”
(Genesis 31:34, American Standard Version, emphasis added)
“Now Rachel had taken the teraphim, and put them in the saddle of the camel, and sat upon them. And Laban felt about all the tent, but found them not.”
(Genesis 31:34, Jewish Publication Society Old Testament, emphasis added)
“Now Rachel had taken the teraphim, and put them in the camel’s furniture, and sat upon them. And Laban felt about all the tent, but found them not.”
(Genesis 31:34, Revised Version, emphasis added)
“Now Rachel had taken the teraphim, put them in the camel’s saddle, and sat on them. Laban felt around all the tent, but didn’t find them.”
(Genesis 31:34, World English Bible, emphasis added)
“Now Rachel had taken the teraphim, put them in the camel’s saddle, and sat on them. Laban felt around all the tent, but didn’t find them.”
(Genesis 31:34, Young’s Literal Translation, emphasis added)
There may be more translations but I think you will see that in a lot of translations, we are seeing “idols” or “images” being used in place of the real word that should be used which is teraphim.
Looking at the Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance, we see in the King James Version that this reference number is H8655, תְּרָפִים, terâphı̂ym, a healer; Teraphim (singular or plural) a family idol: - idols (-atry), images, teraphim.
Is it possible that the translators who have chosen to use “idols” or “images” be hiding something form us?
Please take note here that there is no illusion of power involved here. This evil power comes from the fallen angels, or devils, who are literally the power behind each idol. This is why many such false gods are “real” in a literal sense, even in our modern-day era and especially the highly worshipped gods of black magic sects.
To bring this into the 21st century modern context, you may have heard of or even watch the movie “City of Angels,” starring Nicholas Cage and Meg Ryan. The guys who were in black were actually fallen teraphim. Along with all their cohorts several thousand years earlier, they were put into the abyss pending their eventual emergence as detailed in the book of Enoch and they were referenced in both Jude and 2 Peter.
“And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.”
(Jude 6, KJV)
“For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;”
(2 Peter 2:4, KJV)
In the movie “City of Angels” the teraphim loved the sun. The movie did not say it, but is it possible that this could have be true because these teraphim had been in darkness for nearly 6,000 years at this point? Again, we do not know if those who made this movie knew this or not. It is interesting in several ways in that this movie is really an amazingly accurate takeoff of what we read in the book of Genesis Chapter 6 and in the book of Enoch.
The fallen watchers are real living beings which the fictional versions in the movie “City of Angels” is based. These beings are called sayir. Greek mythology refers to satyrs as being half-man and half-beast. Could this be a reference to the Hebrew word sayir? The books of Jude and 2 Peter both speak of angels who did not keep their positions of authority and they are bound in chains in darkness awaiting their judgment. In all these cases, the Hebrew word used for these angels is sayir, whose pictographic meaning is “watches to destroy [consume] men’s souls.” These words perfectly describe devils.
The Ultimate Devil
When Satan and his hordes were thrown out of heaven, he took with him one-third of all the angels that were in heaven. Of the one-third, there are three groups of angels as we have seen above. One-third of the cherubim, one-third of the seraphim, and one-third of the teraphim went with Satan when he fell. In the original Hebrew text, it does not explicitly tell us that there was one-third of the cherubim, one-third of the teraphim and one-third of the seraphim who were cast out of heaven with Satan. All signs indicate that Satan’s “one-third of the angels” was evenly distributed across the three angel types.
Before Adam and Eve came into being, Satan had fallen. We do not know how long it was before YHWH created Adam and Eve. We see in the book of Genesis Chapter 3, where Satan took center stage in man’s downfall. It was not long after YHWH created Adam and Eve that Satan looked down upon Adam and Eve and he saw that they were frail and dull creatures in his sight. He resented it that YHWH had made a covenant with them and given them the authority and dominion over the earth which could have been his. Needless to say, Satan was jealous of Adam and Eve. Satan’s jealously and pride got the better part of him and he led an assault upon Adam and Eve. He took the appearance of an earthly creature and he tricked them into trading their covenant relationship with YHWH for the false concept of equality with YHWH.
We do not know what Adam and Eve were thinking at that time, but it is hard to believe they would expect to achieve “equality with YHWH,” for that was then and still is impossible and they both knew this. On the other hand, it is believed that they may have felt that “knowledge,” as represented by the fruit from the tree, might make them even better companions of YHWH. Perhaps they thought it might somehow enhance their relationship by narrowing the knowledge gulf between them and their Creator.
As a result of Adam And Eve listening to Satan, the nearly lost everything and as a result, the price that man had to pay, from that day forward, has been beyond comparison as we all know so well. Now, death had the ultimate dominion because of man’s fall. Man lost his immortality and he lost out on paradise. They were driven from the presence of YHWH and they were doomed to toil in pain and futility from that time to today. Thankfully, this is not the end of the story.
In YHWH’s anger and in His overwhelming sense of betrayal, we can only imagine what He must have felt. Since we humans are created in His image, we have emotions and feelings. It is not a stretch to say that He also has emotions and feelings. After all, we are created in His image and likeness. As a result of Satan bringing about the fall of mankind, YHWH said to the serpent:
“And I will put enmity [hostility/hatred] between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.”
(Genesis 3:15, KJV, comment added)
There is one widely held interpretation that the above verse is the first Scriptural reference to the coming of the Messiah. But even though this is partially true, we still need to dig a little deeper. Some have called this whole story nothing more than a fascinating myth which was invented to explain why snakes crawl on their bellies. What is actually being revealed in the Hebrew text here is much more sinister.
Most translations use the word “they” rather than “he” to identify who is doing the bruising and treading. When we look at the NASB translation, it becomes clear:
“And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise [crush] you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel.”
(Genesis 3:15, NASB, emphasis and comment added)
YHWH is literally making a prophecy about the two sets of offspring being Satan’s and man’s. The Hebrew word zera‛ (Strong’s #H2233) is referring to Satan’s offspring or better known as his “seed.” This is the same Hebrew word which is used for Adam and Eve’s offspring. In this instance, we are not talking about spiritual descendants. The Hebrew word actually means blood relatives or physical descendants.
In other words, Satan has kids and mankind has kids in exactly the same context. His kids and your kids are equally real in a physical sense. I know this sounds far fetch but please hang with me here for a little bit and this will become crystal clear.
Satan was not satisfied with the partial victory he had won in deceiving Adam and Eve and thus bringing about their downfall. He immediately implemented a scheme that has spanned throughout time and it called for nothing less than the complete assimilation of man into Satan’s own unholy legions.
Now the Nephilim
Now we enter into the sixth chapter of the book of Genesis where it gives us a few details of what we see even more of in the book of Enoch. The book of Enoch gives us a lot more details on these fallen angels and it fills-in some of the missing pieces that are not given to us in the Bible. We learn from the book of Enoch that there was a group of 200 of Satan’s fallen angels (teraphim) who were led by one of the fallen angels named Samyaza. He made a pact agreeing with the teraphim that they could take on human form. When they did this, it gave them the ability to seduce the daughters of men and thus produce giant offspring which is a hybrid of devils and humans known as Nephilim. One of these creatures, in the singular, would be a Nepal.
Remember earlier that it was stated that the teraphim are the only ones of the three groups of angels who can take on human fleshly form for any extended period of time. Yes, to put it bluntly, they did have sexual relations with human woman, called sirens. And they did produce offspring that were not created by YHWH.
In the ancient Hebrew language, the letters looked much different than what we see today. Hebrew words are formed with their own internal meanings which are embodied within each of the letters. Taking for example the word “shalom.” Below, you will see the ancient pictographic and the modern Hebrew for this word.
The word “Shalom” means “peace” in English but pictographically and internally, it means “destroy the authority that binds us to chaos.” There is great depth to the Hebrew language. In this context, certain letters of the Hebrew aleph-bet make a clear distinction between various kinds of “life,” especially between animal life and human life.
In general, the Hebrew word chai means “life,” but chai can be spelled in three different ways, with each spelling referring to a distinct type of life.
1) The first way to spell chai, as shown in Table A below is by using the Hebrew characters Chet-Yod-Yod. Pictographically, this is a picture of YHWH putting a fence (Chet) around His work (yod). This fence of protection encloses YHWH’s orderly creation and prevents chaos from entering. Biologically speaking, without these fences of protection, life cannot last very long; for example, the cell wall or the skin that covers our bodies provides irreplaceable protection.
The first Yod, pictographically, represents the work of God. The second Yod explains how He made it, by forming it with His own hand and breathing life into it. In this creation passage, YHWH was revealing the nature of the unique and intimate relationship He was proposing to have with mankind. He was further affirming that man is separate and distinct from all other kinds of life, made by YHWH’s hand in His own image, with his life literally “breathed in” by YHWH. This word also correlates to (i.e., symbolically signifies) the Hebrew word, nishmah, which ancient rabbis spoke about as representing the spark of YHWH that dwells within each human.
2) The second way of spelling chai uses the Hebrew characters Chet-Yod, which references the Hebrew word “Nefesh.” Nefash means “all other life that YHWH spoke forth.” This stands in contrast to the only form of life that He literally formed with His own hands. This spelling can be used for all life of any kind, including man and animals. It refers to all life in existence - everything that is alive. The one yod represents the work that YHWH did in making this kind of life . . . He spoke it forth and He put a fence of protection around it as well.
3) The third way to spell chai uses only the Hebrew letter Chet. This spelling contains no Yod (work of YHWH) at all. It means that both YHWH’s work and His Spirt are completely absent from it. Oddly enough, this still designates “a living thing.” This usage of Chet is limited to Nephilim only, but it has sometimes been translated as “evil beast.” This may have been done to avoid confusion with a “wild beast” such as a lion or bear.
Table A: Chai or “life”
YHWH always uses a Chet to “fence off” and separate His work from chaos. At the same time, man is the only thing YHWH made — literally — with His own hands (Genesis 2:7). All the rest of creation came about from Him speaking His words to bring that which He wanted to come into existence and emerge from nothingness. He chose to do something different with man. He chose to use His hands to make man and in doing so, He used His personal touch, forming man with His own hand before He breathed life into his nostrils.
What a difference between man and the Nephilim! Nevertheless, in our various modern translations of the Scriptures the truth still is not always clear. When the Bible talks about the Nephilim, they are usually called the offspring of sexual union between “sons of God” and “daughters of earth.” And with respect to what happened next . . . we see in the King James version, Genesis 6:12 (KJV) is rendered:
“And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.”
Sad to say, the King James translators chose to use the generic words “corrupt” and “corrupted,” rather than indicating clearly that the “evil beasts” — the Nephilim — were responsible for what actually took place.
Thankfully, we find in the Gesenius’ Hebrew-Chaldee Lexicon to the Old Testament the word Nephilim is defined as “a living abortion,” or “to fall to the ground from heaven,” or “to become a ruin.” So, the truth is not completely hidden from those Who dig and search these things out. This is part of being a Berean.
Finally, there is one more very revealing distinction we need to look at. The Hebrew letters for the word nephal are Nun–Pay–Lamed, which pictographically means “to speak control over life.” YHWH does not do this. He is into speaking freedom rather than control. His purpose through His covenant is the exact opposite of Satan’s. In other Words, this satanic strategy of interbreeding between man and devils represents Satan’s attempt at controlling mankind for his own purposes. Since the moment they were first conceived the Nephilim have been trying to control mankind, which is exactly the opposite of what YHWH would do.
Nephilim in the Headlights
For many years, all over the globe, in studying almost every ancient civilization, researchers have uncovered remarkably similar myths about the flood and the creation. Often these myths include very specific details that corroborate the Genesis account. For example:
One flood account from the Tehuelche of Patagonia includes this comment in regards to the reason why God brought on the flood: “At a remote time in the past, the earth was inhabited also by people other than those created by the sun god. They were very bad and fought among themselves all the time. When the sun god saw this, he decided to annihilate these people and to create another population in their stead. To destroy the bad people the sun god sent torrential and continuous rain, the springs opened, and the ocean overflowed.”
Obviously, these people worshipped the sun God as their creator god, but the story is still the same. Yet where did these people get the idea that there were “men” living on the earth that were not created by their God?
The Tanakh, the Holy Scriptures (i.e., the Old Testament), is published by the Jewish Publication Society, translates Genesis 6:1-2 into English as follows:
“When men began to increase on earth, and daughters were born to them, the divine beings saw how beautiful the daughters of men were and took wives from among those that pleased them.”
In the book of Enoch Chapters 7 and 8, it gives us a much clearer picture and more details of the story given to us in Genesis Chapter 6 in the Bible. Enoch explains that these beings who show up on Earth and cohabit with the daughters of men were not the “sons of YHWH” as claimed in Genesis 6:2 and 4 in the King James translation, and several other translations as well. Nor are they seen as “divine beings” in the Jewish Publication Society translation of verses one and two noted above. Rather, Enoch calls them “sons of heaven,” which makes a lot more sense considering their source.
Below is presented both Chapters 7 and 8 of the book of First Enoch. It is important to see what Enoch wrote.
The Book of First Enoch, Chapter 7 (Section 2)
“1 it happened after the sons of men [these are “normal” humans] multiplied in those days, that daughters were born to them, elegant and beautiful. 2 And when the angels, the sons of heaven [emphasis added], beheld them, they became enamored of them, saying to each other, come, let us select for ourselves wives from the progeny of men, and let us beget children. 3 Then their leader Samyaza said to them; I fear that you may perhaps be indisposed to the performance of this enterprise; 4 And that I alone shall suffer for so grievous a crime. 5 But they answered him and said; We all swear; 6 And bind ourselves by mutual execration, that we will not change our intention, but execute our projected undertaking. 7 Then they swore all together, and all bound themselves by mutual execrations. Their whole number was two hundred, who descended upon Ardis, which is the top of mount Armon. 8 That mountain therefore was called Armon, because they had sworn upon it, and bound themselves by mutual execrations. 9 These are the names of their chiefs: Samyaza, who was their leader, Urakabarameel, Akibeel, Tamiel, Ramuel, Danel, Azkeel, Saraknyal, Asael, Armers, Batral, Anane, Zavebe, Samsaveel, Ertael, Turel, Yomyael, Arazyal. These were the prefects of the two hundred angels, and the remainder were all with them. 10 Then they took wives, each choosing for himself; whom they began to approach, and with whom they cohabited; teaching them sorcery, incantations, and the dividing of roots and trees. 11 And the women conceiving brought forth giants, 12 Whose stature was each three hundred cubits [By comparing various ancient artifacts, a cubit has been found to equal about 18 inches, according to National Geographic’s atlas, The Biblical World. So, let’s do the math: 300 x 18 = 5,400 inches, which amounts to 450 feet or a little more than 137 meters.]. These devoured all which the labour of men produced; until it became impossible to feed them; 13 When they turned themselves against men, in order to devour them; 14 And began to injure birds, beasts, reptiles, and fishes, to eat their flesh one after another, and to drink their blood. 15 Then the earth reproved the unrighteous.”
The Book of First Enoch, Chapter 8
“1 Moreover, Azazyel taught men to make swords, knives, shields, breastplates, the fabrication of mirrors [made them see that which was behind them], and the workmanship of bracelets and ornaments, the use of paint, the beautifying of the eyebrows, the use of stones of every valuable and select kind, and of all sorts of dyes, so that the world became altered. 2 Impiety increased; fornication multiplied; and they transgressed and corrupted all their ways. 3 Amazarak taught all the sorcerers, and dividers of roots: 4 Armers taught the solution of sorcery; 5 Barkayal taught the observers of the stars; 6 Akibeel taught signs; 7 Tamiel taught astronomy; 8 And Asaradel taught the motion of the moon. 9 And men, being destroyed, cried out; and their voice reached to heaven.”
In Chapters 9 thru 11 in the book of Enoch, it details YHWH’s response to what the fallen “sons of heaven” had done. It is highly recommended that these passages and better yet, the entire book of Enoch be read for the complete details of the events that are only hinted at in other primary sources, including the Bible.
The Bible tells us how Satan appeared in the Garden of Eden and he tempted Adam and Eve to disobey YHWH. Contrary to popular belief, man does not belong to the earth; the earth actually belongs to man. YHWH gave man this planet to take care of and to protect it, but Satan sought to regain an earthly form of the authority and power he literally threw away when he rebelled against YHWH. Satan regained that power at man’s expense.
Now, we are ready to look at the formal definitions of these satanic-type beings.
1) A devil is a fallen angel (a cherub, a seraph, or a teraph), which is often referred to in Scriptures as an “evil spirit.” As far as we know, all fallen angels were part of the original (and only) anti-YHWH, anti-heaven rebellion, which was led by Lucifer/Satan. In Hebrew, fallen teraphim who were the “watchers,” are also known as sayir. The ancient Greeks and Babylonians called them satyrs.
2) A nephal (plural: Nephilim) is the offspring from the mating of a teraph with a woman, as we saw detailed previously in Genesis 6:1-2. However, in Genesis 6:4, please note that the “divine beings” and “sons of God” of various translations are clearly identified as Nephilim in Genesis 6:4:
“The Nephilim were on the earth in those days - and also afterward, when the sons of the rulers would consort with the daughters of man, who would bear to them. They were the mighty who, from old, were men of devastation.”
As noted above, the literal meaning of the word nephal is “a living abortion” or “to fall to the ground.” Both the pre-Flood and the post-Flood giants that we see in Numbers 13:33, Deuteronomy 3:11, and 2 Samuel 21:22 were the Nephilim. It is important to note here that not all post-Flood Nephilim grew to be giants in size.
Many of the “people” living in Canaan before the Israelites conquered the land were actually Nephilim (remember, as shown above, in Genesis 6:4, they definitely did reappear on the earth after the flood), which helps explain why YHWH commanded the Israelites to utterly obliterate them, as in the flood. Another famous nephal we read about in the Bible is Goliath, whom David defeated with a stone that struck him between the eyeballs. The Nephilim are also referred to in the Bible as “men of renown” or “men of old” (Genesis 6:4, Numbers 16:2).
3) A demon is the disembodied soul of a dead nephal. Demons are often referred to in the Scriptures as “unclean spirits.”
Of these three, we see where devils are by far the most powerful. This is why Yeshua/Jesus made such a clear distinction between devils and demons. By contrast, the demons residing within the Gadarene madman we read about in Matthew 8:28-34, Mark 5:1-20 and Luke 8:26-37 who came out readily even though their numbers were “legion.” Please note here that these demons begged Yeshua not to send them “into the void” but into living things, even though the nearby herd of pigs was their only real choice. Demons always seek to reside inside something living; they will readily choose animals if there are no available humans. Even pigs!
What are Demons?
According to what we read in the book of Enoch, the fallen angels (who are devils) came before the Nephilim. They taught man forbidden things, such as sorcery, the perverted use of medicinal herbs, sexual deviance, and violent warfare. The Nephilim had a desire for bloodshed, as we see detailed in Genesis 6:11-13:
“11 Now the earth had become corrupt before God; and the earth had become filled with robbery. 12 And God saw the earth and behold it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted its way upon the earth. 13 God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before Me; for the earth is filled with robbery through them; and behold, I am about to destroy them from the earth.”
What we see in the English translations of the book of Genesis may not seem completely clear. This is why the Hebrew text along with the book of Enoch helps fill in the crucial details for us. Despite the popular interpretation to the effect that God killed millions of people by bringing on the Flood, He was actually destroying the Nephilim and those in association with them.
Noah and his family were the only human beings left on the earth who were not tainted by the bloodline of the Nephilim nor where they associated with the Nephilim. When YHWH spared Noah and his family from the Flood, He was saving mankind from being totally corrupt and from being totally extinguished from the earth.
We know the story where Noah built an ark and he gathered his family and all those animals on board the Ark. The Flood cleansed the earth of all the genetic impurities that were introduced through the union of devils and the daughters of men. The offspring of the original Nephilim were killed and Satan was checkmated at that point just as YHWH had promised.
Now, all the Nephilim who were living at that time before the Flood were destroyed by the Flood, thus re-purifying the human race by limiting it to the blood descendants of Noah. Regrettably, the bodies of the dead Nephilim were obliterated from the Flood, but their half-devil, half-human souls “lived” on. Thus, these demons still roam the earth, seeking habitation to this day. This is the unavoidable consequences of all that intentional sin and perversion the fallen angels brought upon mankind.
The ancient Hebrews called these souls “unclean spirits” or “demons.” So, these demons are the disembodied souls of Nephilim. And, of course, the receding of the Flood waters did not signal a total end to the physical Nephilim, either. The Bible is very clear in explaining that the Nephilim reestablished themselves after the Flood, by reemerging in the same way as they did before. Once again, here is what Genesis 6:4 says (emphasis added):
“The Nephilim were on the earth in those days - and also afterward, when the sons of the rulers would consort with the daughters of man, who would bear to them. They were the mighty who, from old, were men of devastation.” (emphasis added)
How do We know where Demons come from?
There are two separate Hebrew words which are used to refer to demons, they are tamunefal and nefsheraa. The first half of these two words is tamunefal (tamu) which means “one who is buried or dead.” A fallen angel, which is a devil, is not able to be buried.
The second half of the word tamunefal (nefal) is the singular for Nephilim, which (as we have just established) are the offspring of sexual unions between fallen angels and women. So, the word tamunefal literally means “a dead nephal.” Some additional meanings are “a hidden abortion, polluted, defiled, an unclean spirit.”
The second word for demons is nefsheraa which is a compound of Nefesh (an animal soul) and raa (evil). The word Nefesh, as it has been explained elsewhere in this study, denotes an animal soul, which all life possesses. So nefsheraa literally means an “evil animal soul” or “the soul of an evil beast.” It can also be translated as “a disembodied soul, deformed, wicked, a hungry soul, an evil soul.”
It is sad to say that the Hebrew words for devil are still sometimes interpreted in our English translations as “demon,” by translators who simply do not know the difference. English versions interchange and they do not differentiate the differences as we have seen above. This is why we still see so much confusion when we read our English translations.
Do not feel sorry for the Nephilim
As noted above, YHWH’s nature is to protect what He values; to shield His own creation from harm. Those who belong to Him who are servants, friends, inheritors and who will eventually become the bride of Yeshua, we must always be grateful for His protection.
At the same time, we know that YHWH takes no pleasure in destroying anything (Ezekiel 33:11). And yet, as the ultimate source of righteousness, He cannot do otherwise with various “powers and principalities” that have arisen to work directly against His creation. Please bear this in mind when you consider what He did, via the flood, to the Nephilim of old. Or, when you remember what He would have done to the Nephilim who lived in the land of Canaan, had the children of Israel fully obeyed Him and destroyed the Nephilim He commanded them to destroy. As a result of the children of Israel not obeying His command to destroy the Nephilim, they are still with us to this day. Remember earlier that it was stated that the Nephilim today are not always seen as giants as of old. There have been reports of people seeing actual giants in different places in the world. This is documents. All one needs to do is do their research.
The Nephilim do not deserve our misplaced pity. Given their nature and their source, they have no capacity whatsoever to become redeemed of YHWH. As Jude 1:19 puts it:
“These are the ones who are [agitators] causing divisions—worldly-minded [secular, unspiritual, carnal, merely sensual—unsaved], devoid of the [Holy] Spirit.” (Amplified Bible [AMP])
In other words, the Nephilim are lower than the animals. Worse yet, these Nephilim are many times more dangerous, wicked, and capable of harming us than any wild beast we might ever encounter. In the book of Isaiah, he calls them “detestable ones” (Isaiah 24:16). In addition, they are completely empty of any spiritual or emotional resemblance to human beings. All humanity has the spark of YHWH dwelling within them; literally, we are YHWH-breathed. Thus, it is a complete contradiction of terms if we try to apply “human” attributes to the Nephilim.
The Nephilim are not extinct
We would like to report that “living” nephilim are entirely creatures of the distant past — that maybe a few new ones were born after the Flood, but that the Israelites wiped them all out when they conquered Canaan and they’ve never been reproduced since § then. But of course, we can’t certify any such thing. Consider just a few clues . . .
When different ones in the B’rit Hadashah, the New Testament, talked about “false prophets” they were using various Hebraic idiomatic terms that referred directly back to earlier terms for the Nephilim. For example: “men of old” and “men of renown.” These expressions where mentioned earlier. It is obvious that the Nephilim were still around in days of the New Testament writers. Consider what Yeshua/Jesus tells us in 2 Peter 2:12-19:
“12 But these [false teachers], like unreasoning animals, [mere] creatures of instinct, born to be captured and destroyed, reviling things they do not understand, will also perish in their own corruption [in their destroying they will be destroyed], 13 suffering wrong [destined for punishment] as the wages of doing wrong. They count it a delight to revel in the daytime [living luxuriously]. They are stains and blemishes [on mankind], reveling in their deceptions even as they feast with you. 14 They have eyes full of adultery, constantly looking for sin, enticing and luring away unstable souls. Having hearts trained in greed, [they are] children of a curse. 15 Abandoning the straight road [that is, the right way to live], they have gone astray; they have followed the way of [the false teacher] Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the reward of wickedness; 16 but he was rebuked for his own transgression: a mute donkey spoke with a man’s voice and restrained the prophet’s madness.
17 These [false teachers] are springs without water and mists driven by a tempest, for whom is reserved the gloom of black darkness. 18 For uttering arrogant words of vanity [pompous words disguised to sound scholarly or profound, but meaning nothing and containing no spiritual truth], they beguile and lure using lustful desires, by sensuality, those who barely escape from the ones who live in error. 19 They promise them liberty, when they themselves are the slaves of depravity—for by whatever anyone is defeated and overcome, to that [person, thing, philosophy, or concept] he is continually enslaved.” (Amplified Bible [AMP])
The NIV translation renders the last three verses of the above (17-19) as follows:
“17 These people are springs without water and mists driven by a storm. Blackest darkness is reserved for them. 18 For they mouth empty, boastful words and, by appealing to the lustful desires of the flesh, they entice people who are just escaping from those who live in error. 19 They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity—for “people are slaves to whatever has mastered them.” ” (emphasis added)
I encourage you to re-read the book of Jude, which essentially contains all these same warnings. In talking about the outward signs of His return Yeshua said, in Luke 17:26-27:
“26 And just as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be in the time of [the second coming of] the Son of Man: 27 the people were eating, they were drinking, they were marrying, they were being given in marriage, [they were indifferent to God] until the day that Noah went into the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.”
(Amplified Bible [AMP], emphasis added)
So, what is so unique about that verse?
We have to ask ourself, “When has there ever been a time when people did not eat, drink or marry?” How can activities which have gone on since the creation, be a sign that will tip us off to the return of Yeshua?
Well, the words from which the translators got “they” were the Hebrew Words baal (devils) nashim (women), which means “devils/idols” and “women.” In other words, this passage is saying that, “as it was in the days of Noah when ‘devils and women’ were given in marriage, etc., etc.” As we can see here, it helps when we take the time to dig to learn what the Scriptures is really telling us. Yes, it takes time but do you not see the value in studying His Absolute Written Word?
When we dig a little bit, this makes far more contextual sense. Yeshua is saying that one sign of the end times will be the clear spectacle of fallen angels, giving and taking in marriage and once more producing Nephilim. And in effect, YHWH is saying that He is simply not going to put up with such abominations. He did not put up with it in ancient times and He is not going to put up with it in the end times, either. On the contrary, He is coming back to end it once and for all.
We see this further supported by Daniel 2:43-44:
“43 And as you saw the iron mixed with common clay, so they will combine with one another in the seed of men; but they will not merge [for such diverse things or ideologies cannot unite], even as iron does not mix with clay. 44 In the days of those [final ten] kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed, nor will its sovereignty be left for another people; but it will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it will stand forever.” (Amplified Bible [AMP], emphasis added)
We see here where Daniel talks about the statue Nebuchadnezzar saw in his vision, and Daniel refers to the four evil kingdoms being represented by gold, silver, bronze, and the feet that were made of iron mixed with clay.
This statue is a representation of the last four kingdoms that will rule the Earth, starting with Nebuchadnezzar. Others have already interpreted much of this passage correctly; the first three metals refer to Babylon, Medo-Persia, and Greece. The feet represent the final kingdom that will be governed by the Beast which we refer to as the antichrist.
But Daniel is saying something else here. Something that is too oftened missed. According to Hebraic symbology, clay is the sign for man. Indeed, the word “Adamah” (whence comes the name “Adam;” thus, within the first man’s name is a direct reference to where he came from) literally it means “soil,” and iron is the sign for angels operating on the earth. Therefore, within the Kingdom of the Beast, Daniel is prophesying that there will once again be a blending between man and devils.
In other words, just as Yeshua said in Luke 17:26-27, this familiar passage from Daniel, written long before Yeshua came the first time, is prophesying for us that the teraphim will be having sexual intercourse and thus producing offspring as they did in the days of Noah, just before Yeshua comes back for the final time.
So, does this mean that we will be seeing the Nephilim in the end times? Yes, it does! But does this mean that we will be seeing giants? Not necessarily. Remember what was said earlier that the Nephilim we are likely to see will be much more normal in appearance than the giants of the pre- and immediate post-Flood eras. The Nephilim most likely to be present at the end times will be a type that does not take on giant proportions.
What is the Nephilim’s Agenda?
If devils are Scripturally defined as “fallen angels,” as we have shown earlier in this study who can take on human appearance, and demons are the disembodied souls of the physical offspring (Nephilim) of devils and humans, then what can we know or infer about each of their separate agendas? For example, how should our understanding affect the way we deal with these beings when we are casting out or discerning spirits (1 Corinthians 12:10)?
First, we know that the disembodied Nephilim are striving for their lost humanity. We remember for example the Gadarene madman. Whenever a manifestation such as that occurs, as described in Matthew Chapter 5, we are talking about a demonic presence. Nephilim feed on the sensations of humans. Demons want to feel our fear, our hate, our pain, our lust, or any other human emotion.
They control their host to create intense painful or pleasurable sensations. It does not matter which one they are tapping into. Demons just want to feed on the sensory stimulation to feel “human” again. These foul creatures are the fragmented remains of something that was once partially human. All true humanity has authority over these demons, but in the name of Yeshua only. These demons use fear and intimidation to try to convince us otherwise, but we must not be fooled by them.
What about the Devils?
Demons want to feed on human experience regardless of the cost to the host involved. It is believed that devils want more than demons. If we think about it logically, devils want your identity because it is YHWH Who gave mankind authority to rule over the earth. These devils are, by nature, territorial and they refuse to share their possessions with any other devils. They do not mind sharing a person with a host of demons. Demons do not care about a person’s identity like devils who crave the identity of people.
When you exercise authority and eliminate demonic influence, you may very well attract the attention of more dangerous beings. The presence of a devil is indicated when your purpose, identity, vision and authority come under assault. Even Yeshua experienced this type of encounter as Satan began his attack with the words: “you are the Son of God” (Matthew 4:3).
Please be careful and not arrogant if you choose to confront any supernatural entity unless you fall when you think you are standing. Demons and Devils are real. Do not take them lightly. When dealing with devils, it requires you to have prayerful lifestyle and of fasting to establish authority in submission to Almighty YHWH (Matthew 17:14-21). Even the archangel Michael did not rebuke Satan directly as we see in Jude 9. He petitioned YHWH to deal with him: “The Lord rebuke you.”
The battles in the Garden and at the Flood were won by YHWH. The strategies of Satan were deterred and YHWH’s plan for mankind continues. All believers in Yeshua/Jesus are both the inheritors and the instruments of that His plan as long as we maintain a close relationship with YHWH, through the covenants, and we do as He has given us His instructions written in the Torah (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy).
Devils are fallen angels — teraphim, seraphim, or cherubim.
Teraphim are the lowest order of angels. They can take human form and interbreed with women.
The offspring of a teraphim and a woman is called a nephal (plural: Nephilim).
Demons were not created by YHWH; they are the disembodied souls of dead Nephilim.
Therefore, devils and demons are not the same thing! And in their present forms, neither one was created by YHWH. They both result from a rebellion among the heavenly host that YHWH never intended. They each have separate agendas. And, when we encounter them, we must deal with them differently.
Most importantly, devils and demons have not gone away. They are not just part of the ancient past. They are with us now and they will be with us in horrid abundance during the end times. In the second volume in this series we will deal with this subject again; for now, forewarned is forearmed.
