Biblical Definitions: “Sin”
Source: “Messiah – Volume 1 – Understanding His Life and Teachings In Hebraic Context” by Avi Ben Mordechai. This book is no longer available from Coming Home - A Biblical Hebraic Outreach Teaching Ministry from Avi Ben Mordechai. It is out of print.
NOTE: I have added my comments in square brackets as such [...].
Along the same lines, the word “sin” can be defined as nothing more than falling short of righteousness and faithfulness to the Words of G-d, the Torah [The five books of Moses which are Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy].
In the Bible, the word “sin” is from the Hebrew word חטא (chata), Strong’s #H2398. Its primary definition is to—
Miss the way, go wrong, incur guilt.
In the B’rit Chadashah [New Testament], the counterpart to the Hebrew chata is the Greek hamartia, Strong’s #G266. The Enhanced Strong’s Lexicon defines the term this way:
To miss the mark.
To err, be mistaken.
To miss or wander from the path of uprightness and honor.
To wander from the Law of God, violate God’s Law, sin.
In the context of the Tanakh [Old Testament], we find that the following passages support the idea that to sin means to fall short of walking according to G-d’s life-giving commandments:
With all my heart I have sought Thee; do not let me wander from Thy commandments. Thy word I have treasured in my heart, that I may not sin against Thee. (Mizmor (Psalm) 119:10-11) [Emphasis added]
Now if a person sins and does any of the things which the Lord has commanded not to be done, though he was unaware, still he is guilty, and shall bear his punishment. (Vayikrah (Leviticus) 5:17) [Emphasis added]

Shabbat Shalom :o))
Proverbs 8 Matthew 4
Shabbat shalom most precious ones. May your R&R, today, be blessed. Our calendar is blowing by with gale force wind and I can hardly believe another year is nearly gone; and yet, where are we, right now, in created time? Past, present, future — solid, liquid, gas — height, depth, width — a trinity of trinities — like silly putty — moldable into an array of concepts, as we speak, and — this is precisely what Proverbs 8 and Matthew 4 are all about. Who is “her” in Proverbs 8:1?
Proverbs 8:1 Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice?
Who is “she” in Proverbs 8:2? And are we listening??
Proverbs 8:2 She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths.
WHAT? What, pray tell, doeth “the way” mean in verse 2? Is it possible that Solomon is telling us about our Messiah Who addresses HIMself as “The WAY” in John 14:6?
John 14:6 YESHUA Jesus saith unto him, I am The WAY, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by ME.
Screech... back up... We’re not in John yet. We are in Matthew and only getting started, as we read about Yeshua quoting what... Mad Magazine? The New York Times?? The New Testament??? NO. When hasatan quotes scattered passages of Scripture, in an attempt to throw “The WAY” out of The WAY, YESHUA consistently replies by quoting TORAH and specifically Deuteronomy, all three times:
(I’m not going to dignify hasatan by quoting him, only what YESHUA says)
Matthew 4:4 But HE [Yeshua] answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every WORD that proceedeth out of the mouth of YHVH.
[Yeshua IS quoting Deuteronomy 8:3]
Deuteronomy 8:3 And HE humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that HE might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every WORD that proceedeth out of the mouth of YHVH doth man live.
Again, the second time, Yeshua replies:
Matthew 4:7 YESHUA Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt YHVH thy ELohim.
[again, Yeshua IS quoting Deuteronomy]
Deuteronomy 6:16 Ye shall not tempt YHVH your ELohim, as ye tempted HIM in Massah [H4532 a place in the desert — coincidence? I don’t think so].
And thirdly, Yeshua replies:
Matthew 4:10 Then saith YESHUA Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship YHVH thy ELohim, and HIM only shalt thou serve.
[again, Yeshua is quoting Deuteronomy]
Deuteronomy 6:13 Thou shalt fear YHVH thy ELohim, and serve HIM, and shalt swear by HIS name.
Deuteronomy 6:14 Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which are round about you [like the little santa clause god standing by the front door across the street — ARE YOU SERIOUS???!!!];
Deuteronomy 6:15 (For YHVH thy ELohim is a jealous ALE among you) lest the anger of YHVH thy ELohim be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth. [who is “thee” and is “thee” exempt? Again, I don’t think so!]
Deuteronomy 6:16 Ye shall not tempt YHVH your ELohim, as ye tempted HIM in Massah. [X 2!]
Deuteronomy 6:17 Ye shall diligently keep the Commandments of YHVH your ELohim, and HIS Testimonies, and HIS Statutes, which HE hath commanded thee.
Deuteronomy 6:18 And thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of YHVH: that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and possess the good land which YHVH sware unto thy fathers,
Deuteronomy 6:19 To cast out all thine enemies from before thee, as YHVH hath spoken.
What more can I say? For those who missed the very first thing YESHUA told us:
Matthew 4:17 From that time YESHUA Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.
Today, right now, banks and businesses (redundant as that may be :o) are giving away free 2021 calendars; and guess what, As we read — in ENGLISH — from left to right, SHABBAT IS STILL the 7th day in black and white. And to this day, the pope’s people are saying, “ya, but. Ya, but...” and YESHUA is still saying, “Repent: for the Kingdom of Heaven IS at hand.”
YHVH IS adding HIS blessing to the reading of HIS entire Holy Bible. Amen.

JUDGE NOT, Mr. Muckemfuddy
(or is that really his name? :o)))
January 7, 2021
Isaiah 10+ Luke 2
If we go to a distant land, such as Lower Bongo-Bongo, and the folks there introduce us by the language they speak (and not the way we speak) would it bother you if you are introduced as Mr. or Ms. Muckemfuddy? Personally, I prefer Rog (short for Roger). In the second grade, a migrant Hispanic friend of mine called me Rahshas. He could hardly speak English and never quite got a handle on how to say my name :o))) He was such a precious classmate. But, if he had insisted on calling me Muckemfuddy, because of his land of origin, we probably would not have been such good buddies — comprende? When an angel, from the throne of GOD comes to this “far country” and tells us the name of our Messiah — does it really matter what we call HIM? The Greeks and the Romans have given us a very different name than the angel Gabriel spoke in:
Luke 1:26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from ELohim unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, ...
And the angel Gabriel said to our Messiah’s mother:
Luke 1:31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call HIS name WHAT?!.
To answer this question, Hebrew linguistic expert Nehemia Gordon explains in his book:
According to Scripture, we need at least a second witness and thus we have two books about the origin of TRUTH by Dr. Miles Jones:
And of course, most folks are totally content with Santa Clause and Mr. Muckemfuddy; and on that note, what’s all this hype about “thou shalt NOT judge”? They base this greasy grace and sloppy agape on one verse and not the entire chapter that COMMANDS us to judge! And Yeshua is taking us back to the TORAH, the Prophets and the Writings of GOD, specifically Isaiah 10 today:
Isaiah 10:1 Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and that write grievousness which they have prescribed;
Isaiah 10:2 To turn aside the needy from judgment [*H1779], and to take away the right from the poor of MY people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless!
*H1779 דּוּן דּין deen, doon
From H1777; judgment (the suit, justice, sentence or tribunal); by implication also strife: - cause, judgment, plea, strife [on behalf of the poor, needy, orphans, for the sake of WELL BEING! and that’s bad?!].
Isaiah chapter 10 is as current as news hot-of-the-press TODAY! And, Isaiah chapter 11 is being ratified in Luke chapter 2! lOOlie:
Isaiah 11:1 And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse [The NETZER! Our MESSIAH!!], and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:
Isaiah 11:2 And the Spirit of YeHoVaH shall rest upon HIM, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of YeHoVaH;
Isaiah 11:3 And shall make HIM [Yeshua] of quick understanding in the fear of YeHoVaH: and HE shall not judge after the sight of HIS eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of HIS ears:
Isaiah 11:4 But with righteousness shall HE judge the poor [plead for the poor, YES!], and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and HE shall smite the earth with the rod of HIS mouth, and with the breath of HIS lips shall HE slay the wicked.
Isaiah 11:5 And righteousness shall be the girdle of HIS loins, and faithfulness the girdle of HIS reins.
What is a “netzer”? Again, lOOkie:
Hebrew Netzer (source of this info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazareth)
One view holds that "Nazareth" is derived from one of the Hebrew words for 'branch', namely ne·ṣer, נֵ֫צֶר, and alludes to the prophetic, messianic words in Book of Isaiah 11:1, 'from (Jesse's) roots a Branch (netzer) will bear fruit'. One view suggests this toponym might be an example of a tribal name used by resettling groups on their return from exile. Alternatively, the name may derive from the verb na·ṣar, נָצַר, "watch, guard, keep," and understood either in the sense of "watchtower" or "guard place", implying the early town was perched on or near the brow of the hill, or, in the passive sense as 'preserved, protected' in reference to its secluded position. The negative references to Nazareth in the Gospel of John suggest that ancient Jews did not connect the town's name to prophecy.
Michael Rood gives an excellent teaching on The NETZER of Isaiah 11:1, our MASHIYACH/Messiah, in his video series entitled, THE JONAH CODE and the Seventy Weeks Prophecy of Daniel. A “must see” and may be seen at:
Michael explains EXACTLY what a NETZER is and what Nazareth actually means. These Instructions are sooooo very Very VERY important if we really want to know our eternal LIVING FAMILY :o)))

(our Messiah quoted our Prophet Isaiah on the Sabbath in Nazareth)
Isaiah 13 – 18 Luke 4
The late Dr. Chuck Missler pointed out a profound observation, to MaraDale and me about 2 decades ago; and that is, When our Messiah stood up in church* on the Sabbath and read from the book of Isaiah — we read:
Luke 4:16 And HE [Yeshua] came to Nazareth, where HE had been brought up: and, as HIS custom was, HE went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up for to read.
Luke 4:17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias [Isaiah]. And when HE had opened the book, HE found the place where it was written,
Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon ME, because HE [our FATHER which art in Heaven] hath anointed ME to preach the gospel to the poor; HE hath sent ME to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
Luke 4:19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. [period]
What Chuck pointed out is that Yeshua STOPPED READINGat a comma in the book of Isaiah, which reads:
Isaiah 61:1 The Spirit of Adonoy YeHoVee is upon ME; because YeHoVaH hath anointed ME to preach good tidings unto the meek; HE hath sent ME to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
Isaiah 61:2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, [comma ! because that was HIS FIRST Mission and AFTER the COMMA is about HIS SECOND advent as the complete sentence continues] and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;
The day of vengeance of our God, as you most likely know, is nigh at hand. Have you heard about HUGE meteors zinging toward this globe and the possible ramifications if we are hit? For some reason (mostly because I know in WHOSE hand I dwell) these threats have not shaken me. Man cannot cause these meteors to move in the constellation. Only ELohim has that POWER and HE is in control. Chuck Missler also said (in about 2001 at a Bible conference in Denver) that nuclear weapons have become too HUGE to be used! He said that two of the BIGGIES detonated at the same time would blow this planet out of its orbit!!
As you know, I am not a prophet; however, as I continue to read “God’s WORD” cover-to-cover, as it is written, repeatedly, without ceasing — the tuning fork of ABBA’s WORD begins to resonate with the fork of current news (or did I say that backwards? :o)): Recently, MaraDale and I discussed “the football,” even though we haven’t heard it mentioned in many years; however, last evening, Mr. “ARE YOU SERIOUS” mentioned great concerns about it, without even saying, “ARE YOU SERIOUS”:
[My Note: YouTube has and continues to take down good informative content. This is one such case. YouTube along with Facebook and Twitter cannot handle the TRUTH. It is so sad how these companies and others have gone to the bottom of the trash heap and I might add, they are RIPE (stink).]
Call me a total nutcase, if you like; but, would the detonation of multiple nukes at the same time move this planet out of the path of a HUGE incoming meteor???? If we will listen, our genuine Prophet Isaiah is telling you and me:
Isaiah 24:19 The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is clean dissolved, the earth is moved exceedingly.
Isaiah 24:20 The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again.
If I’m not mistaken, it was Monty Judah who pointed out that tents/Tabernacles/Sukkot may collapse in an earthquake but it won’t hurt you as would a crumbling brick building. Is this part of our “Rehearsal” at the LORD’s Feast of Tabernacles/Sukkot/tents?
Are all these things: meteors, nukes, earthquakes, etc. a BIG GAME of dodge ball, in the minds of global leaders? Who ya gonna call? :o))) Where ARE we on ABBA’s calendar? Is Damascus soon to be a:
Isaiah 17:1 The burden of Damascus.
Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city,
and it shall be a ruinous heap.
The bombings have begun. The clock is ticking. The handwriting is on the wall, and
YeHoVaH IS adding HIS blessing to the reading of HIS entire Holy Bible. Amen.
*Your Bible may say synagogue or assembly or church when communicating the same sort of grouping together of people; and, there seems to be an agenda behind the use of each: “synagogue” is sometimes used to denigrate the Jews, “assembly” is often used to define the first century Believers and “church” seems to be used in reference to Christians, who were first called such at Antioch (Acts 11:26).

Hebrew Words Defined
What is the Light and Way of ’Elohiym?
by Brad Scott
We have now established that Yeshua‘ is the Word of 'Elohiym. He is not just concepts and thoughts, but the actual words of ’Elohiym in the flesh. Orthodox Jewish scholars, such as Abraham Heschel or Jacob Neusner, would fully agree that the Word is ’Elohiym. In Hebrew thought, when the word of YHVH came to Yiremeyahu (Jeremiah) or Mosheh, YHVH Himself came to them. I believe it is clear that the New Testament teaches that the words of ’Elohiym, already firmly established in the Tanakh, took upon flesh and dwelt among us. This is also clearly taught in the Hebrew idioms of fulfilling and destroying used in Mattityahu (Matthew) 5:17. We will save identification of Hebrew idiom for a much later study. Let's go on to other common New Testament terms.
There are dozens and dozens of narratives used in the New Testament in which the term light (אר) is used. The following are just a few examples:
Mattityahu (Matthew) 5:14 Ye are the light of the world ...
Yochanan (John) 12:46 I am come a light into the world ...
1 Thessalonians 5:5 Ye are all the children of light, and children of the day ...
Yochanan (John) 11:10 But if a man walk in the night, he stumbles, because there is no light in him.
Acts 13:47... I have set thee to be a light of the gentiles.
Acts 26:18... To turn them from darkness to light ...
1 Yochanan (1 John) 1:7 But if we walk in the light as he is in the light ...
Our first thought should focus on the definition of light. Why does He use this term so often? Does it have previous significance? Was this a term already familiar to His listeners? Yes! But what does this word mean to us today? I'll tell you what it means. It is symbolic to us. It is that quality imputed to believers as a result of their confession of Mashiach (Christ). He was the light of the world and now WE are the light of the world. Right? It is true that every man and woman that commits their life to Yeshua‘ is the light of the world. So, what do we do with that piece of information? Did Yeshua‘ have something in mind when He told us that? Did this term mean something significant to Him? Let's find out.
The English word light is taken from the Greek word phos (φώς). There are a number of English words that use this fundamental term. This word, as it is with most New Testament words, finds it's origin in the Tanakh. The word for light is the Hebrew word 'or, pronounced as ore. It's first appearance is in Bere’shiyt (Genesis) 1:3. There has always been controversy over the meaning of the light in this verse, but I believe that the testimony of the rest of the Tanakh will define what ’Elohiym means by this light. Remember, words used by the New Testament writers were not created in a vacuum. They have their meanings established in the Tanakh. The writers of the New Testament do not spend time defining words or phrases to the reader. The meaning of the terms are assumed. Assumed from where? The Scriptures. So let's see how the New Testament dictionary defines light.
Mizmor (Psalm) 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
Mizmor 119:130 The entrance of thy words give light; it gives understanding to the simple.
Mishlei (Proverbs) 6:23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:
Yesha’yahu (Isaiah) 8:20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
Yesha’yahu 51:4 Hearken unto me, my people; and give ear unto me, O my nation: for a law shall proceed from me, and I will make my judgment to rest for a light of the people.
Yesha’yahu 5:20-21 Woe unto them who call evil, good, and good, evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter. Woe unto them who are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!
Hoshea (Hosea) 6:5 I have slain them by the words of my mouth; and thy judgments are as the light that goeth forth.
Mishlei 4:18-22 But the path of the just is like the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day. The way of the wicked is like darkness; they know not at what they stumble. My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.
This would be the dictionary of the New Testament writers. Their understanding of the words they used came from the scriptures they already had. When the Bereans were commended in Acts 17:11, it was because they went back to the Tanakh to verify everything that was being taught by these early disciples. Why? Reason number one is because that is all they had. The New Testament had not yet been penned. Reason number two is because the Hebrew people had been taught for centuries that if someone does not speak according to the law and the testimony there is no light in them. So, when the New Testament writers, especially Yeshua‘, used the term light they used it in a way that was already understood. Let's go over a few New Testament verses again. This time we will see them in their proper context.
Yochanan 8:12 I am the light of the world ... (i.e. I am the words of ’Elohiym.)
Mattityahu 5:14-16 Ye are the light of the world ... (i.e. Now you are the words of ’Elohiym.)
Mattityahu 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. (i.e. Proclaim and DO the words of ’Elohiym, so that the world can see who you are and glorify Him.)
Yochanan 11:10 But if a man walk in the night, he stumbles, because there is no light in him. (i.e. If he has not the words of ’Elohiym in him then he cannot know what is right or good for him.)
Yochanan 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. (i.e. Man has always rebelled against the laws and commandments of YHVH, because it is His judgements and laws that expose sin.)
If there is a concordance available, all occurrences of light can be searched out. Now might be a good time to go to these occurrences and see them through the light (pun intended) of their scriptural definitions. One last comment on light and then we will trace the term way. In 1Thessalonians 5:4-5, concerning the "day of the Lord," Sha’ul (Paul) presents a contrast between the sons of darkness and the sons of light. In Hebraic thought, based upon the definition of light, the Benei Ohr (sons of light) or the Benei Yom (sons of the day) are the children of Torah. They are the children of Yah's teaching. They know and live YHVH's Torah (His laws, commandments, precepts, ordinances, ways, etc.) The Benei Lailah (sons of the night), or the Benei Choshech (sons of darkness), are those without Torah. They are those who do not know or were deliberately never taught the words of ’Elohiym. Their leader is referred to as "the man of iniquity", the lawless one, read 'the Torahless one', the one without light.
So now we have defined light. Lets move on to another frequently used term. In Yochanan 14:6 Yeshua‘ says of Himself, "I am the way, the truth and the life." What does He mean that He is the Way? Does He simply mean that He came to point the way to the Father? Does He mean that He IS the way to the Father? I believe that the answer to that is a resounding YES! But why does He choose that particular word? Why doesn't He come right out with it? Why does He keep saying that He is the bread from heaven, the light of the world, the door of the sheep, the first and the last, the Son of man, the Passover? Why doesn't He just say, "I am YHVH, period!" Well, He really does, to those who have an ear to hear (idiom). Yeshua‘ uses terms that are already well defined. His title of the way is one of those terms. So, let's go back to the dictionary to define what the New Testament writers meant when they used this word.
Bere’shiyt (Genesis) 6:12 And God looked upon the earth, and behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.
Yesha’yahu (Isaiah) 2:3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his way, and we will walk in his paths; for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of YHVH from Jerusalem.
Mizmor (Psalm) 119:1 Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the LAW of YHVH.
Miykah (Micah) 4:2 And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of YHVH, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the LAW shall go forth of Zion, and the WORD of YHVH from Jerusalem.
Mizmor 119:9 Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy WORD.
Mizmor 119:30 I have chosen the way of truth: thy judgments have I laid before me.
Mizmor 1:1-6 Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law does he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he does shall prosper. The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind drives away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgement, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For YHVH knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
Mizmor 119:30-32 I have chosen the way of truth; thine judgements have I laid before me." I have clung unto thy testimonies; O YHVH, put me not to shame. I will run the way of thy commandments, when thou shalt enlarge my heart.
There seems to be a clear theme connected to this word. The way of YHVH is the Word of ’Elohiym. In the Hebrew, the word for way is derek (דרכ). It means way, path, road, or manner. It is used to show a means by which something is accomplished or sought. Scripturally, there is always the contrast of Yah's way or our way. As you can see from several of it's occurrences, that when used 'of YHVH', it is most often in conjunction with His words or commandments. So let's go back to the New Testament and put this definition back into it's proper context.
Mattityahu (Matthew) 22:16 And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying Master, we know that thou are true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: . . . (i.e. We know you teach the words of God in truth.)
Mark 10:52 And immediately he received his sight, and followed Yeshua‘ in the way. (i.e. He obeyed the words of YHVH)
Hitgalut (Revelation) 15:3 And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying Great and marvelous are thy works, YHVH El Shaddai; just and true are thy way, thou King of saints. (i.e. Just and true are His words for He is an eternal King)
2 Kefa (2 Peter) 2:15 Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness: (i.e. They forsook the words of YHVH and followed the advice of Balaam, which was to mix with the Moabites (the gentile ways))
Acts 9:2 And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women ... (i.e. Early Jewish believers following the ways of YHVH in Yeshua‘ the Messiah.)
Romans 3:11-12 There is none that understands, there is none that seeks after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that does good, no not one. (i.e. Israel has chosen to go their own way and have abandoned the words of YHVH.)
Obviously I could go on and on. The point is that over and over again these terms that Yeshua‘ and the writers of the New Testament use are all idioms for the living Word of YHVH. His instructions and teachings, His Torah! This is where life is. Yah's words spoken in the Tanakh became flesh and dwelt among us. According to Sha’ul and Yeshua‘ Himself, all who commit to Him are immersed into Him. Yeshua‘, the Word, the Light, the Way of YHVH. These are much more than just symbolic titles. When the Hebrew writers of the New Testament used these terms, it was in light of the meanings in the Tanakh. Next time we will cover Life and Truth.
By the way, these weekly lessons are excerpts from the 4 CD series entitled: How Then Shall We Live?. This series also covers the terms Law and Grace as seen through the eyes of the writers of the New Testament and many more. It can be found by clicking on the marketplace section.

Three supernatural effects of God’s grace (Eph. 2:4–7): 1. Made alive 2. Resurrected 3. Enthroned No law can ever do these three things F. Leads to addictions: nicotine, alcohol, shopping 3. Husband/wife relationships a. Husband: rage, violence, jealousy, sulkiness, criticism—basically intimidation b. Wife: hurt feelings, tears, emotional sickness, listing husband’s misdeeds to produce guilt—basically, manipulation Sometimes inherited by birth through female line, e.g. (1) American “Deep South” (2) Matriarchal societies c. Both: withholding sex (compare 1 Cor. 7:3–5) 4. Children: rebelliousness, temper tantrums 5. Parents: possessiveness, cultivating dependence, exploiting affection, and so projecting guilt, making love a “reward” 6. In the church a. Appealing for money (1) “There are 5 people here . . .” (2) Harrowing descriptions—guilty if you don’t give (3) “You will receive your healing if . . .” b. Fear and threats (1) “If you leave this church, you’ll never prosper.” (2) Demand for unquestioning loyalty (3) “Covenant breaker” (2) and (3) are marks of cults c. "So Yeshua said to some of those which believed on Him, 'If you abide in My word, you are truly My disciples, and you will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free'... They answered Him, 'Abraham is our father.' Yeshua said to them, 'If you were Abraham's children, you would be doing the works Abraham did, but now you seek to kill Me, a man who has told you the Truth that I heard from YaHoVeH. This is not what Abraham did. You are doing the works your father did... Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot bear to hear My word. Your father is the adversary, and your will is to do your father's desires - which was to murder from the beginning and has nothing to do with the Truth but is the father of lies. But because I tell the Truth, you do not believe Me. Which one of you convicts Me of sin? If I tell the Truth, why do you not believe Me? Whoever is of YaHoVeH hears the words of YaHoVeH. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of YaHoVeH.
"Then some of those which had believed on Him said, 'Are we not right in saying that you are a Samaritan and have a demon?' Yeshua answered, 'I do not have a demon, but I honor my Father, and you dishonor Me ...if anyone keeps My word, he will never see death.' They said to him, 'Now we know that you have a demon! Abraham died, as did the prophets, yet you say, 'If anyone keeps My word, he will never taste death.' Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died? And the prophets who died? Who do you make yourself out to be?' Yeshua answered, 'If I glorify Myself, My glory is nothing. It is My Father who glorifies Me, of whom you say, 'He is our God.' But you have not known Him. I know him. If I were to say that I do not know Him, I would be a liar like you, but I do know Him and I keep His word... Yeshua said to them, 'Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.' So they picked up stones to throw at Him to kill Him, but Yeshua hid himself and went out of the temple." John 8:31-59
This is an astonishing, amazingly revealing passage of scripture. In the course of 30 verses (John 8:31-59 - click on highlighted verse to view content) a group of believers in Yeshua move from a position of embracing Him to wanting to kill Him. What would cause such a radical change to so quickly overcome people who proclaimed their loyalty to Him? What was it He said that so offended them? "If you abide, dwell in, live My Words only then are you considered to be My disciples and only then will you know Who Truth is (the Father) and only then will you be set free from your sin." Their response was to question Yeshua's statement based on the tradition that had been handed down to them - that of being Abraham's children (how many "believers" today claim to be of Abraham's seed?). Now, what they were saying was true, that is, the words they spoke came from the pages of the Book - Yeshua even acknowledged that He knew what they were saying was written. However, as He continued to explain to them that what they said they believed with their mouth had no bearing on whether they had captured Truth - only that it was their behavior that indicated such. These "believers" began to defend their tradition rather than being receptive to the possibility that, because these words of Truth did not fit into their traditional way of thinking, perhaps they needed to be given deeper consideration. In their anger of resistance, they then tried to negate Yeshua's words by relegating Him to either a cult status or as being demon possessed when all He was doing was revealing how they could be free. In the very act of defending their tradition, they chose to close themselves off to Truth. Eventually, it led them into a position of murder, thinking they were doing "God's will" (John 16:1-2).
